MetricPull Support
MetricPull is an Apple Health export utility. If you have a question or run into an issue, this page should help.
frequently asked questions
Why is my export empty or missing data?
MetricPull can only export data that exists in Apple Health. If a metric shows no values, it means Apple Health doesn't have recorded data for that metric in your selected date range. Check that your Apple Watch, iPhone, or connected app is actually writing that data to Health.
Why am I not seeing a health permission prompt?
iOS only shows the HealthKit permission prompt once. If you previously denied access, go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → MetricPull and enable the metrics you want to export.
My CSV looks wrong in Excel or Google Sheets
MetricPull exports standard UTF-8 CSV files. If columns aren’t separating correctly, try importing the file using your spreadsheet app’s Import function (File → Import) rather than double-clicking to open it. Select “comma” as the delimiter.
What's the difference between Summary, Log Entries, and Raw Samples?
Summary gives one row per day, week, or month — best for trends — and is available for every metric except Workouts. Log Entries gives one readable row per supported stored record. Raw Samples preserves precise timestamps, provenance, and stored-record identifiers where supported. Weight, paired Blood Pressure, Detailed Sleep, supported quantity metrics, and Workouts support their implemented record modes; ordinary Heart Rate supports Raw Samples only. Record exports generally require a single metric, except Blood Pressure requires systolic and diastolic together. If you’re not sure, start with Summary. Analysis Kit can optionally be enabled for every supported mode.
Log Entry dates and times are local wall-clock values in the export timezone and do not contain UTC offsets. Raw Sample timestamps include UTC offsets. Rows preserve chronological order. Daylight-saving transitions can cause repeated local times or changing offsets. Raw Samples are the appropriate choice when the exact timestamp and offset matter.
What is the Analysis Kit?
Analysis Kit is an optional add-on for Summary, Log Entries, and Raw Samples exports. When enabled, your export becomes a ZIP. Every Analysis Kit ZIP contains health_export.csv (your data) and analysis_instructions.md — a plain-language file documenting the export’s columns, units, date or timestamp format, row count, missing-data rules, and other details needed to interpret it correctly. Log Entries and Raw Samples ZIPs also contain metadata.json, a separate machine-readable description of the export’s structure and configuration. Summary exports intentionally contain only the CSV and instructions file. It exists so spreadsheets and AI tools don’t misread your export — treating an empty cell as zero, or assuming the wrong units. Everything is generated entirely on your device, and MetricPull never analyzes your data itself.
Why did my export come out as a ZIP instead of a CSV?
The “Include Analysis Kit” toggle was on. Turn it off to get a plain CSV — nothing else changes. ZIP contents vary by mode: Summary exports contain health_export.csv and analysis_instructions.md; Log Entries and Raw Samples contain those files plus metadata.json. The AI Weight Trends Export preset has Analysis Kit on by default; everywhere else it’s off unless you enable it.
What are Analysis Notes?
Optional notes you write on a saved Summary preset — context only you know, like “weekend food logs are less reliable” or “compare the last 14 days with the previous 14.” They’re included with that preset’s Analysis Kit exports, clearly marked as your notes so the tool reading your data knows they came from you. Analysis Notes remain available only on saved Summary presets; they aren’t available for Log Entries or Raw Samples even though Analysis Kit can be enabled for those modes. They never change the CSV data, they don’t appear in plain CSV exports, and they aren’t medical advice or coaching from MetricPull — they’re simply your own words traveling with your own export.
What are AI Setup Instructions?
Optional, reusable instructions you can copy from the Settings screen and paste into ChatGPT, Claude, or another AI tool — a one-time setup that teaches the tool how MetricPull exports work in general. The current instructions cover Summary and record exports, including empty cells, units, date formats, partial periods, timestamps, UTC offsets, chronological ordering, and daylight-saving transitions where relevant. The copied text contains none of your health data and none of your Analysis Notes. It’s entirely optional: every Analysis Kit ZIP already includes instructions for that specific export.
Why don't my exported totals exactly match the Apple Health app?
For some metrics, Apple Health combines data from multiple sources — an iPhone and an Apple Watch, say — using internal rules that aren’t fully available to third-party apps. MetricPull uses Apple’s official HealthKit queries, so totals can occasionally differ slightly from what the Health app displays. Analysis Kit exports note this limitation so downstream tools account for it.
How does the Blood Pressure view in Quick Metrics work?
It shows systolic and diastolic together — one chart, your latest reading, and week-over-week and 30-day comparisons displayed like 128/79 mmHg. MetricPull shows your readings exactly as recorded in Apple Health. It doesn’t classify, diagnose, alert on, or interpret your readings, and it isn’t a medical device — for questions about your blood pressure, talk to a healthcare professional.
Can I change a saved preset after creating it?
Yes. From the Export screen you can rename, duplicate, or delete any saved preset. Open a saved preset, adjust its settings — date range, units, aggregation, the Analysis Kit toggle — and tap “Save Changes to Preset” to keep them. Saved Summary presets can also carry Analysis Notes, edited from the same screen.
Can I export data MetricPull doesn’t support?
MetricPull supports 70 health metrics across six categories: Body, Activity, Heart, Sleep, Vitals, and Nutrition. If there’s a metric you’d like to see added, reach out using the contact form below.
Does MetricPull upload my data anywhere?
No. All Health-data processing happens on your device. MetricPull has read-only access to Apple Health, no user accounts, no developer backend, and no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. It does not upload Health data automatically. Your Health data stays on your device unless you choose to export it — you pick the destination in the iOS share sheet. MetricPull can open user-requested support, feedback, and Privacy Policy links, but those links do not include Health data. Once you share an export with another app or service (including an AI tool), that destination’s privacy policy applies to your copy of the data.
